Hi Evon, It’s great to hear you want to work! If you are interested in working for Social Security, we suggest you learn more about Schedule A hiring- read our post Schedule A Provides People with Disabilities A Fast Track to Federal Employment (http://choosework.net/blog/jsp/blog.jsp?post_id=59). And, if you are 18 through 64 and receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits because of a disability, you qualify to participate in the Ticket to Work program which may be able to help you. The program can connect you with a service provider in your area, an Employment Network or Vocational Rehabilitation agency, that will support you on your journey. Both offer services to help you explore your work options and they may be able to help you find a job with a call center. If you are not participating in the Ticket to Work program or working with an EN or VR, you can find one using our Find Help tool at www.choosework.net/work or to get started, call 1-866-968-7842 (V) or 1-866-833-2967 (TTY) to speak to a Ticket to Work representative who can discuss your personal situation. If you are 65 or older, and do not qualify for the program, you may want to check out these other resources at http://www.diigo.com/list/choosework/resources-for-older-workers.
Hi Grady,
Are you currently participating in the Ticket to Work program? If you are age 18 through 64 and receive SSDI and/or SSI benefits because of a disability then you are eligible for the Ticket to Work program. We also suggest you speak to a Ticket to Work representative who can discuss your personal situation and help you explore your options to keep your benefits while you start your own business. The Help Line number is 1-866-968-7842 (V)/ 866-833-2967(TTY) and available M - F 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM ET. Also, special rules called Work Incentives (WI) can help you keep your benefits while you work. You can discuss WI with a representative or visit our webpage on Work Incentives to learn more at http://www.chooseworkttw.net/about-program/work-incentives.html. Best of luck to you with starting your own business.
